Tarek is a Partner in Shahid Law Firm's International Business and Dispute Resolution Groups and is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the American University in Cairo. He heads the Firm's International Trade, and Aviation, Shipping & Transportation Teams and co-chairs the Africa desk, working in conjunction with Shahid Law Firm's sister firm in Ethiopia, Meseret Seyoum and Associates.
Tarek maintains a broad international law practice and has experience consulting for the United Nations. He represents clients in trade, commercial, and investment disputes before international tribunals, Egyptian courts and administrative authorities.
Tarek also advises clients on day-to-day business matters in the aviation, shipping & transportation, banking & finance, energy, oil & gas, insurance & financial services, pharmaceuticals, and TMT industries; and regularly represents clients during their negotiations with Egyptian governmental authorities and private parties.
In addition, Tarek acts for lenders and borrowers in finance transactions and has particular experience in aircraft financing deals. His experience in banking and finance has been commended by Legal 500 (Banking & Finance, 2016 to 2020).
Furthermore, Tarek represents and counsels some of the leading players in the TMT sector, ranging from global IT and telecommunications companies to the largest regional and global media companies and news agencies. His expertise spans advising on complex questions arising from the changing Egyptian media and TMT legal landscape to acting for media companies and news agencies as well as their representatives in disputes. His work in the TMT sector has been recognized by Legal 500 (TMT, 2019-2020).

Tarek has written extensively on different areas of Egyptian and international law and appears as a guest lecturer on legal matters in Egypt and overseas. He also sits as an arbitrator, and regularly serves as an expert witness on Egyptian law before courts (e.g., in Canada and the United Kingdom), and international arbitral tribunals.
Tarek is a member of the Egyptian Bar Association and is a licensed Barrister and Solicitor of the Court of Appeal for Ontario (non-practising). He holds degrees in Political Science and Law from the American University in Cairo (BA), Cairo University (LLB), Essex University (LLM), and McGill University (BCL/JD).
