Steven R. Englund focuses on the protection and commercialization of intellectual property and technology, and particularly on copyright law and new media and technology transactions. Called a “copyright guru” by Legal 500, he has helped shape many aspects of current copyright law.
Mr. Englund has been named one of the Best Lawyers in America for Copyright Law. Combining his knowledge of substantive intellectual property law with his extensive experience as a transactional lawyer, he also provides practical business advice to clients that create or use intellectual property or technology. In addition, Mr. Englund has represented major entertainment companies or their trade associations in precedent-setting copyright cases and regularly advises clients concerning patent and data rights issues under government contracts and grants.
Mr. Englund is a member of the firm's Content, Media & Entertainment Practice. He has written extensively on areas related to his field, including a chapter in BNA's treatise on Intellectual Property Technology Transfer related to the regulation of intellectual property developed at government expense. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the D.C. Computer Law Forum and a member of the Copyright Society of the USA, and was formerly Vice-Chair of the Copyright Committee of the District of Columbia Bar.
