Biography
  • Stephen predominantly focuses on complex contractual disputes within the field of construction and real estate, Stephen advises a wide range of clients including contractors, subcontractors and major property developers in the Dubai real estate market. He is experienced in giving clear and practical advice on the complicated jurisdictional, procedural and substantive issues that frequently arise in high value arbitrations, in addition to drafting pleadings and submissions, and representing clients at tribunal hearings.

  • Stephen assists his clients in relation to arbitrations in a number of regional and international centres, including the Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC), Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC LCIA), and International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). He regularly advises clients on the enforcement of arbitration awards in the local courts and DIFC courts.

  • Stephen has extensive experience in commercial and civil litigation in the UK and other jurisdictions, particularly within the fields of banking and financial services. Whilst practising in the UK, he has spent time on secondment to both the Enforcement and General Counsel Divisions of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), and has experience advising clients in relation to financial regulation in the UAE, both onshore and by the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA). As part of his broader commercial practice, Stephen has represented clients before a number of courts and tribunals, including the High Court in England & Wales, and has successfully acted for clients in various contractual and employment disputes.
