Courtney Rothery
Courtney is a construction and engineering disputes specialist who has worked in Dubai since 2008. She is experienced in advising on complex technical disputes and has acted on several large arbitrations concerning high-profile projects in the Middle East. She has extensive experience of domestic and international arbitration rules and UAE Court proceedings. She advises and represents developers and major local and international contractors and subcontractors.
Where arbitration is the only option Courtney is able to steer clients through the rules and procedures for domestic and international arbitrations of all the major arbitration institutions. Courtney also has experience of ad hoc (i.e. non-institutional) arbitrations.

Experience
Successfully represented a main international contractor who was the Respondent in a complex ICC arbitration involving claims and counterclaims worth US$150 Million relating to the construction of one of Saudi Arabia's most renowned projects. The case settled on very good terms for our client after the first week of evidence in a two week hearing in London.
Successfully securing a final award in a DIAC arbitration on behalf of an international contracting client. Courtney represented the claimant whose claims were vigorously defended by the respondent, who also counterclaimed. The case involved a number of interim applications and concluded with a five-day hearing in Dubai. The claimant was successful in all of its claims and was awarded sums in respect of prolongation costs, variations, retention, interest and a significant sum in respect of legal costs. The client was very pleased with the final award and there is nothing more important than a very pleased client.
Successfully representing a State owned entity in an ICC arbitration relating to an oil and gas production contract in the UAE. The case involved issues relating to misrepresentation, breach of contract and wrongful termination. The claims and counterclaims totalled approximately US$38 million.

The respondent was a high-profile regional contractor. The final award was issued in favour of our client included a significant award for costs.
