Biography

Before becoming a qualified lawyer, Caglar Coskunsu served on container vessels and bulk carriers of a major shipping company as second officer and chief officer. He was later promoted to onshore management as the manager of the claim and insurance department where he was engaged in marine claims and disputes. He was particularly involved in P&I matters. After his graduation from Istanbul University Faculty of Law, he studied maritime law at the University of Southampton for a LL.M. degree in Maritime Law. He also has experience in the offices of international law firms, insurers, P&I Clubs, salvage brokers, adjusters and recovery agents in London, where he spent the summer of 2004, to gain experience in London insurance and shipping market practices. After admission to the Istanbul Bar Association, he founded Cavus & Coskunsu Law Firm where he provides legal assistance to Turkish and foreign clients in every aspect of maritime law and insurance law. Recently, he has been sharing his knowledge and experience by attending seminars held in London and Istanbul where he has been giving speeches on ship arrest, salvage and wreck removal.
