Non-Technical Summary for UHP IWPP ESIA
1 - Introduction
Umm Al Houl Power Company (UHP) engaged GHD Global Pty Ltd (GHD) to undertake an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the proposed Umm Al Houl IWPP Expansion Project (hereinafter referred to as “the Project”). This Project will augment the existing desalination production capacity with an additional 61.45 MIGD using reverse osmosis (RO) membrane technology.
The Umm Al Houl Power (UHP) IWPP Is located around 7.0 km south of Al Wakrah Town Centre and 15 km to the south of Doha, Qatar (Figure 1-1).
The potential environmental and social impacts of the Project have been assessed in accordance with requirements of the following:
Qatari Environmental Impact Assessment Policy and Procedure (1998)
International Finance Corporation (IFC) performance standards and its guidance notes; and
Equator Principles and the World Bank Group Environment Health and Safety (EHS) Guidelines.
This report summarises the outcomes of the ESIA and identifies the environmental and social management plans that must be implemented for the proposed Project.
