Interim Guidance for Safe Ramadan and Eid Al fitr Practices in the Context of the COVID-19
Background
The transmission of COVID-19 is facilitated by close contact between people, as the virus is spread through respiratory droplets and contact with contaminated surfaces. State of Qatar has implemented sets of interventions and measures to mitigate the public health impact such as physical distancing measures, wearing masks, getting COVID-19 vaccines, avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated indoor spaces and clean hands frequently.
The holy month of Ramadan is characterized by its social and religious forums that continue throughout the Holy month and until the end of Eid Al Fitr celebrations. It is customary for intense traditional and religious gatherings to take place during the holy month during Iftar, Suhoor, Tarawih and Qiyam prayers, as well as i'tikaaf during the last ten days of Ramadan.
Within the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, clear instructions, interventions and measures to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 transmission should be implemented such as: Cancelling social and religious gatherings, advice regarding physical distancing and other measures related to COVID-19, proactive messaging on healthy behaviours during the pandemic and assurance the compliance with these preventive measures.
