Household Medical Waste
It is the household waste that is generated from health care activities at home, including single and multiple lodgings, hotels and hostels, camps, and schools.
Providing home health care takes two forms:
1- Providing health and medical care by accredited health facilities
2- Personal care
Types of medical waste resulted from home health care
Grouping | For example: |
Sharp tools | syringes with attached needles, blades, etc. |
Solid infectious waste | Gauze and wound cleansing wipes, diapers and menstrual pads, wound dressings, contents of colostomy bags, single-use gloves, bed linen or other clothing that has come in contact with the patient's body fluids, etc. |
Medicines that are no longer needed | (antibiotics, caffeine, or aspirin) fragrances, cosmetics, sunscreens, nutrients. |
Toxic cells | Impenetrable metals (thermometers containing mercury). |
Household medical waste management
Disposing these items with regular household garbage or general sewage water exposes the waste collectors to the risk of infection, and contamination of the environment.
