Definitions

IP (Internet Protocol): Internet protocol is a method or a protocol that allows the data to be sent from one computer to another on the internet.

IP Address: A unique numerical address that identifies each and every device on the internet or a local network.

IPv4 (Internet Protocol version 4): Internet Protocol version 4 is the fourth version in the development of IP but the first version to be widely deployed for internet data connection with a capacity of 4,294,967,296 possible IP addresses.

IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6): Internet Protocol version 6 is the new (sixth) version of the IP that will eventually replace the current version (IPv4), with a capacity of more than 340 trillion possible IP addresses.

Dual Stack: A solution or a technique that enables both IPv4 and IPv6 in the network at the same time.

Network: A set of computers, devices and protocols that allow communication and sharing of resources.

Firewall: A network security system designed to prevent unauthorized incoming or outgoing access to a private network.

Router: A device that forwards data packets along network paths.
