Oman Central Bank Circular No. BM893/2000

Maintaining the Confidentiality of Examination Reports

To: All Licensed Banks operating in the Sultanate of Oman

Subject: Maintaining the Confidentiality of Examination Reports

After Compliments,

The Central Bank regrets to inform that it has come across many instances where some of the Licensed Banks have divulged to their customers, information given in the Reports on the Examinations conducted by the Central Bank on their banks, particularly those relating to their accounts classified by the Central Bank.

The Central Bank’s concern in this regard is due to the need to maintain strict confidentiality on the exchange of information and data between CBO and banks. As emphasized in page one of every examination report issued by the Central Bank, the Examination Reports are “the property of the Central Bank of Oman and is furnished to the Bank examined for its confidential use. Under no circumstances shall the Bank or any of its directors, officers, or employees disclose or made public in any manner the report or any portion thereof, without the prior approval of the Central Bank of Oman“.
