Subject: Banks investments in Shares and Securities of other Corporations/Entities
After Compliments,
With a view towards encouraging banks to use the opportune moments and also the moving price factor to their optimum advantage, particularly, when accessing the markets, both primary and secondary, the Central Bank of Oman is pleased to inform that, with effect from the date of this Circular, it has been decided to revoke the case by case prior approval procedures, adopted so far, in the case of banks’ investments in shares and other securities of corporations, within the limits specified in Article 4-4.02 (b) (4) of Oman Law No. 7/1974.
Pursuant to this decision, banks will be allowed, subject to the conditions listed hereunder, to operate freely within the limits already stipulated in the Banking Law for the type of investment activity available in both the Initial Public Offering and the Secondary Market of MSM.
