Overview

  • In 2009, the Civil and Commercial Court of the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) was established by virtue of QFC Law No. 2/2009, which amended certain provisions of Qatar Law No. 7/2005. In 2012, the Council of Ministers of the State of Qatar approved the use of the name “Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre” and so references to the Civil and Commercial Court of the QFC are to be understood as references to the Qatar International Court (the Court).

  • The jurisdiction of the Court is, primarily, contained within the Qatar Law No. 7/2005 (as amended). Article 8(3)(c) of Qatar Law No. 7/2005, which provides that the First Instance Circuit of the Court has the jurisdiction to hear the following:

    1. Civil and commercial disputes arising from transactions, contracts, arrangements or incidences taking place in or from the QFC between the entities established therein.

    2. Civil and commercial disputes arising between QFC authorities or institutions and the entities established therein.
