Your case summary should not exceed 1,000 words.

  • Case Name, Number & Date.

  • Jurisdiction.

  • Court (and level).

1. What happened?

  • The facts of the case.

  • If this is an appeal discuss what was decided in the lower courts(s) and how the case reached this court.

2. What was the legal issue?

  • The legal issue/question being raised/argued by the claimant.

  • How is the defendant responding to the legal claim?

3. What was decided?

  • Judicial reasoning.

  • Ruling.

  • Discuss the law(s), legal principal(s), case(s) that is/are being used in the ruling.

4. Why is it significant?

  • Why were you asked to work on this case?

  • For which area(s) of law is this case important?

  • Is this a landmark decision? If so, why?
