On 19 November 2014, the CIETAC issued revised arbitration rules, effective from 1 January 2015 (CIETAC Rules ).

This Practice Note covers arbitration under the CIETAC Rules, which apply to arbitrations accepted by CIETAC on or after 1 January 2015 (article 84 of the CIETAC Rules ), or to parties who have arbitrations underway but who have agreed to apply the new CIETAC Rules. This Practice Note applies to:

• international and foreign-related disputes (article 3 of the CIETAC Rules );

• disputes related to Hong Kong Special Adminitrative Region, the Macao Special Administrative Region and the Taiwan region (article 3 of the CIETAC Rules ).

This Practice Note does not cover:

• CIETAC's separate provisions for summary arbitration and domestic arbitration, and

• CIETAC's separate provisions for arbitrations by the CIETAC Hong Kong Arbitration Center (article 73 of the CIETAC Rules ).
