The responsibilities of a general counsel in my industry include:

• Lead and manage the company's legal department with the objective to continuously improve the provision of fit-for-purpose legal services to facilitate and support the company's business objectives, ensuring effective management and control of the company's legal spend and be seen as a true business partner by the internal stakeholders.

• Define the mid and long term corporate legal & compliance risk mitigation strategies, manage all legal affairs of the company and work proactively to mitigate potential legal issues. Give advice on legal and other professional standards to the company's management team for staff and contractors to comply with, with the objective of protecting company interests and ensuring strong legal and ethical standards for the company.
