Overview
The DIFC-LCIA Arbitration Centre was dissolved in September 2021 as per Dubai Decree No. 34/2021. Its operations and assets have been emerged into a Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC). Ownership of real estate, assets, funds, staff, financial allocations and membership base will also be transferred to the new Centre.
This Practice Note deals with the 2021 rules and procedures of the former DIFC-LCIA Arbitration Centre.

Starting an arbitration—the Request
Article 1 of DIFC-LCIA Arbitration Rules 2021 (the Regulations) sets out the procedure for starting an arbitration using a written Request for Arbitration (Request).
Under the Regulations, electronic submission of the Request is required. Prior written approval from the Registrar must be sought in advance to submit the Request by any other method (e.g., by recorded physical delivery), as per article 4(1) of the Regulations.
