Artificial Intelligence
Overview
Artificial intelligence (AI) is a potent technology that has transformed - and will continue to transform - every aspect of social life for decades to come. While there is much hype surrounding AI, its wider utilization is still nascent and its capabilities are either over- or under-valued.
As successful utilization of AI for business purposes requires advanced computing and networking capabilities and relies on large amounts of data (big data) as its fuel, in the short term entities operating in Kuwait looking to incorporate AI into their everyday business will face two main sources of legal risk. The first of these is the organization of internal data protection (DP), data transfer (DT), and cyber security mechanisms at a level compatible with the GDPR and other international standards. The second is navigation of the current fractured DP/DT regime in Kuwait and exposure to cyber security risks characteristic of the GCC countries while preparing for the enactment of the future comprehensive Kuwait DP law, which is likely to resemble the GDPR and other comprehensive data protection laws in the GCC.
