Drones Regulations

Overview

  • Drones, also known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) are machines that are remotely controlled by a person on the ground. The first use of drones was for military purposes; however, this is no longer the case as the technology has become more popular and more affordable.

  • As a result, drones are now widely used for commercial and recreational purposes.

  • Nevertheless, the use of drones comes with certain legal risks including data protection, privacy, trespass and nuisance, criminal offences, and liability.

  • In Bahrain, use, manufacture, or possession of UAV without prior permission from the competent authority is prohibited by law.

  • Hence, the aim of this Practice Note is to provide an overview of the general policy and current legal framework with respect to drones (UAV) in Bahrain.
