Drones Regulations
Overview
Drones, also known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) are machines that are remotely controlled by a person on the ground. The first use of drones was for military purposes; however, this is no longer the case as the technology has become more popular and more affordable.
As a result, drones are now widely used for commercial and recreational purposes.
Nevertheless, the use of drones comes with certain legal risks including data protection, privacy, trespass and nuisance, criminal offences, and liability.
In Bahrain, use, manufacture, or possession of UAV without prior permission from the competent authority is prohibited by law.
Hence, the aim of this Practice Note is to provide an overview of the general policy and current legal framework with respect to drones (UAV) in Bahrain.
