Overview
This Practice Note introduces key legal provisions regarding an employer's discrimination against the employees in the workplace, the employees' rights and the employers' obligation under the regulations of Bahrain Law No. 36/2012 on the Issuance of the Labour Law in the Private Sector as well as any convention entered by Bahrain related to such issue.

Types of legislated discrimination
The laws, regulations and conventions in Bahrain have touched upon the discrimination against women through the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), implemented pursuant to Bahrain Law No. 5/2002.
Bahrain ratified the International Labour Organization Convention No. 111 ‘Discrimination in Respect of Employment and Occupation’ in an effort to reduce any kind of discrimination in the employment and occupation sector.
Bahrain Law No. 36/2012 explicitly outlines that any kind of discrimination in the employment and occupation sector is a violation of the law.
