Cybersecurity and Data Protection
Overview
Bahrain does not have a standalone cybersecurity law. Bahrain Law No. 30/2018 Issuing the Law on Personal Data Protection provides for data security when processing personal data, but does not include specific cybersecurity requirements.
Bahrain Law No. 30/2018 was issued on 19 July 2018 and came into force on 1 August 2019.
Bahrain Law No. 30/2018 is heavily modelled on the European Union's Directive 95/46/EC on the Protection of Individuals with regard to the Processing and Free Movement of Personal Data (EU Directive).
Bahrain Law No. 30/2018 aims to regulate the processing (including collection and storage) of a data subject's personal data, safeguard the rights of data subjects in their own data as well as regulate the proper use of personal data and ultimately respecting the right to privacy.
Bahrain Law No. 30/2018 entrusts the Personal Data Protection Authority with the powers necessary for the implementation of, and compliance with, Bahrain Law No. 30/2018.
