Artificial Intelligence

Overview

  • Artificial intelligence (AI) is the simulation of human intelligence by machines. Machines mimic human intelligence by interactively improving their performance based on the information these machines collect.

  • It is important to bear in mind that in today's world, applications of AI are narrow and limited. AI systems are often able to produce useful, intelligent results without intelligence. This is because the machine's ability depends on the data, rules, and information encoded by people. These codes are formulated so that it can be processed by computers.

  • Nevertheless, AI can produce surprisingly good results in relation to certain complex tasks.

  • Examples of AI in daily life include driverless cars, playing chess, face detection and recognition, translation and much more.

  • In September 2020, the Kingdom of Bahrain launched the first Artificial Intelligence Academy in Bahrain Polytechnic. The Academy is the first of its kind in the region and in the Middle East, and it aims at providing an integrated specialized program based on enhancing innovation and creativity capabilities in the field of AI.

  • As for the legal framework, there is no special legislation in the Kingdom of Bahrain that deals with AI. Hence, the general legal rules will apply.
