Designs are considered distinct intellectual property rights and treated separately from patent rights. While patents protect inventions and technological innovations, designs protect the appearance, shape, pattern, ornamentation or configuration of products. Both are separate forms of intellectual property protection administered by the Patent Office, which is part of the Ministry of Economy.
