The main statutes and regulations relating to employment in Egypt are:

  • Egypt Law No. 12/2003, as amended (the Labour Law), and its executive regulations;

  • Egypt Law No. 148/2019, as amended, on social insurance and its executive regulations;

  • Egypt Law No. 131/1948, as amended, on civil law; and

  • Egypt Law No. 91/2005, as amended, on income tax law.

Articles 35 and 210 of Egypt Law No. 12/2003 prohibit discrimination in employment based on gender, race, language, religion or beliefs.

Article 306(A) and (B) of Egypt Law No. 58/1937, as amended by Egypt Law No. 141/2021, contains the Penal Code, which prohibits harassment in both general and private places, including work areas.
