As per Egypt Law No. 13/1968, as amended by Egypt Law No. 157/2024 (the Civil Procedures Code), the civil court system in Egypt is divided into three main types of courts.
First Instance Courts comprise the District Courts and the Preliminary Courts.
District Courts are composed of one judge and render first instance judgments in civil and commercial claims with a value not exceeding 200,000 pounds as well as other specific claims. Moreover, the doctrine of res judicata shall apply to judgments made by district courts with regard to claims with a total value not exceeding 30,000 pounds, meaning that these judgments may not be appealed.
