Sharjah Emiri Decree No. 11/2017 established the Sharjah Media City which is officially abbreviated as "Shams".

The internal regulations of Shams include the following:

• Sharjah Media City Companies and Licensing Regulations 2017. These regulations govern the conduct of companies and branches established in the free zone. Note that Clause 2.3 of the regulations state that the UAE Federal Law No. 2/2015 concerning Commercial Companies (now repealed and replaced by Federal Decree-Law No. 32/2021) does not apply in the free zone.

  Sharjah Media City Free Zone Authority Real Estate Regulations 2017-these set out the principal rules and regulations applicable in respect of the occupation and use of the property within the free zone.

• Sharjah Media City Free Zone Authority Employment Regulations 2017-these regulations regulate the relationship between employers and employee in the free zone.

• Sharjah Media City Free Zone Authority Liquidation Regulations 2018-these set out the methods of winding up of a company and closure of Branch in the free zone
