Egypt Law No. 83/2002, its amended provisions in Egypt Law No. 27/2015 and the Executive Regulations governing Special Economic Zones in Egypt Decree-Law No. 1625/2002, introduced special economic zones (the Special Economic Zones Law). Special Economic Zones are not freezones per se given that freezones are regulated by Egypt Law No. 72/2017, the Investment Law. Egypt Law No. 83/2002, the Special Economic Zones Law, provides that a special economic zone can be established by a Presidential Decree specifying the area and coordinates of the zone.
