Abu Dhabi has passed a sweeping child digital safety law that creates a robust legislative framework to protect children from online risks that might affect their physical, emotional, or moral wellbeing. Aligned with the UAE’s “Year of the Family 2026” initiative, the law covers internet service providers and digital platforms operating in or targeting UAE users—ranging from websites, search engines, and apps to social media, gaming, streaming services, and e‑commerce.

Under the decree, caregivers and digital platforms are bound by strict privacy obligations. Platforms must default to privacy‑friendly settings, implement age verification and parental control tools, and block harmful or age‑inappropriate content. There’s a ban on collecting personal data of anyone under 13, excluding certain educational or health services if authorised by Cabinet decree.
