The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property has announced that individuals who publish or perform literary works without the creator's consent will face monetary penalties and legal action. This enforcement follows an incident where an individual was fined 5,000 Saudi riyals (SR) for reciting poetry on social media for commercial purposes without authorisation.

The authority confirmed that the offending content was required to be removed, in addition to the monetary penalty. The ruling applies to all literary and artistic works shared across social media platforms.

Under the country's Copyright Protection Law (Saudi Arabia Cabinet Decision No. 85/1424), any unauthorised use of literary works, including poetry, constitutes a violation subject to legal proceedings and financial sanctions.
