Summary
Youm7, 4 November 2020: The Egyptian authorities have explained the sick leave provisions for employees.
Under Egypt Law No. 12/2003 (the Labour Law), an employee has a right to sick leave which will be specified by the relevant authority and they should be paid for this period according to the Social Insurance Law.
Employees in industrial enterprises subject to Articles 1 and 8 of Egypt Law No. 21/1958 on regulating and encouraging the industry have the right to sick leave of one month for each three years of service. This will be paid at 75% of their salary. The next three months of sick leave will be unpaid.
Employees can use their outstanding annual leave in addition to their sick leave and they are also entitled to request the transfer of their sick leave to annual leave if their allowance is sufficient.
