Setting the Law to True Time

Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre is perhaps the best physical demonstration of this tiny nation's growing international stature and global ambition. The Oath talked to the centre CEO, Robert Musgrove.

Can you give us an update on the court?

All aspects of the Court and ADR Centre are now being used. We have heard nine cases in the past year at first instance, and the appeal circuit has sat under the President Lord Woolf. We have heard our first mediation, and also two arbitrations. Arbitration cases in particular look likely to keep the court busy. In recognition of our international jurisdiction, and to describe our full dispute resolution services, we are now operating under the trading name Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre. Whilst our primary jurisdiction continues to be financial disputes from the Qatar Financial Centre, our new name better defines not only the court's commitment to provide the highest quality international standards in dispute resolution, but also Qatar's wider ambitions to promote the strong rule of law, become an international centre of excellence for dispute resolution and provide world leading legal protection for international investment.
