QFC 0014, 0015, 0019, 0020/2022, Srinivas Patta and Others v Meinhardt Bim Studios LLC and Another

This case involved four employees of the same employer who had not been paid their wages. This was the first time the small claims procedure had been used for a case of this nature. Issues included the correct procedure where a case of this nature was not defended. The court's jurisdiction to award amounts owed by a company which was a significant shareholder in the QFC employing company but was not a QFC company itself was also considered.

Background

This case deals with four separate cases which the Court had decided to hear and determine together because of the common parties and issues involved. Each of the four Claimants had brought a claim for unpaid salary and associated allowances owed to them, It was said, by Meinhardt Bim Studios LLC which was a company incorporated and licensed in the QFC. In two of the claims, Meinhardt (Singapore) Pte Ltd was joined as a Defendant. Meinhardt Singapore was a company established in Singapore and which was listed on the QFC Public Register as being a “Significant Shareholder” in Meinhardt Qatar.
