E- Recent Developments: In Arbitration Law and Practice
With the enactment of the UAE Arbitration Law (Federal Law No. 6/2018) in June 2018, the UAE repealed the previous arbitration provisions contained in Article 203-218 of Federal Law No. 11/1992 (the UAE Civil Procedure Law as amended). Federal Law No. 6/2018 is largely based on the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration and is aligned with the international best practice.
The UAE courts have adopted an arbitration friendly approach and have interpreted Federal Law No. 6/2018’s provisions in a conducive manner to support the process of arbitration proceedings.
With the coming into force of Federal Law No. 6/2018, the UAE Courts have rendered several rulings which ensure the compliance of the parties with arbitration agreements, and other provisions which govern the conduct of arbitration.
