C - Understanding the UAE's New Arbitration Law

After much anticipation the UAE's new arbitration law was finally unveiled in 2018 modernising a law which has been in place since 1992. Six months after its issue the partners of Clyde & Co joined with local and international arbitration experts to look at the key features of the new arbitration law, what it means in practice and the possible challenges for UAE institutions.

What are the features of the law?

Alec Emmerson

This law is very welcome and is a great improvement on its predecessor, Article 203-218 of Federal Law No. 11/1992 (the civil procedure law). It is broadly in line with the UNCITRAL Model Law which has global recognition and is used globally. A lot of the features will be intelligible to arbitrators and arbitration lawyers around the world.
