Study remit
The School of International Arbitration, which is part of the Centre for Commercial Law Studies at Queen Mary University of London, carried out an International Dispute Resolution Study in 2016 entitled, ‘An Insight into Resolving Technology, Media and Telecoms (TMT) Disputes'. The School of International Arbitration is one of Europe's leading research centres on international arbitration and litigation. The Study provides practitioners in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region with an insight on the global trends in TMT disputes. This article considers lessons for MENA-related TMT disputes from this study and discusses how they can be played out in practice.
The Study was conducted as part of an investigation into international dispute resolution practices and mainly focused on TMT disputes and ways of resolving them efficiently. It presents a global view of the TMT dispute resolution market, as it included findings from many countries as 10% of the participants operated in the MENA region. The participants included private practice lawyers, in-house lawyers, arbitrators, mediators and academic counsel.
