    Earlier this year, the UAE National Media Council (NMC) issued the Electronic Media Regulation (the Regulation) aimed at governing all online media activities in the country. The Regulation mainly introduced new licensing requirements for commercial digital media activities in the UAE. It also reinforces the obligation for all online media content broadcast across the UAE to comply with the local religious, social and cultural values.

    The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) recently issued a circular dated 6 September 2018 (the CBE Circular) setting new regulations on banks offering funds to companies operating in the field of installment sales. The new circular aims at regulating banks financing companies operating in the installment sales field in order to provide some regulation to this previously unregulated market and to mitigate any risks and avoid companies and consumers running into financial difficulties.

    On 13 September 2018, the new Consumer Protection Law, Egypt Law No 181/2018 (the CPL) was issued and published in the Official Gazette. The new CPL repeals and replaces the previous consumer protection law, which was first introduced in 2006 and is the law that initially established the Consumer Protection Agency (CPA), the regulator of general consumer protection in Egypt. The new CPL regulates consumer protection in a more extensive way and addresses several issues that were not previously regulated.
