Jordan Electronic Transactions Law

Jordan Law No. 15/2015 on Electronic Transactions was published in the Official Gazette on 17 May 2015, coming into effect on the same date of publication. Jordan Law No. 15/2015 paved the way for e-commerce practices to flourish by clarifying the legal framework and the operational spectrum for online businesses to implement their contracts through electronic means of communication. Additionally, Jordan Law No. 15/2015 addressed and sanctioned electronic records by forming an alignment that enabled electronic records to operate as written records.This commentary proposes to analyse Jordan Law No. 15/2015 by guiding the application of such transactions and also measure the apparent implications of the Jordanian market.

Background

Jordan Law No. 15/2015 radically shifted the operational side of businesses in Jordan. Accordingly, the country began to instigate innovative changes with the introduction of today's advanced technology. Therefore, legislative reform was duly required to effectively incorporate technological innovation to attain an alignment between regulation and innovation, as observed under Jordan Law No. 15/2015.
