Iraq Competition and Antitrust Law

Background

At the outset, Iraq Law No. 14/2010 on the Law of Competition and Antitrust. Iraq Law No. 14/2010 was enacted by the Iraqi Government by the influence of the World Bank, and was published in the Official Gazette on 9 March 2010. It aims to regulate competition and prevent monopolising practices. Iraq Law No. 14/2010 applies to all the production, trade activities, and services provided by natural or legal entities inside the country. It is also applied to the economic activities outside the country if their implications take place inside the country. In addition, according to article 4 of Iraq Law No. 14/2010, a Competition and Antitrust Council (Council) must be established. The said Council will be an administratively and financially independent authority related to the Cabinet.
