Egypt Mineral Resources Law Executive Regulations

Overview

As part of the Egyptian government's ongoing effort to attract foreign investments to the mining sector in Egypt, new Executive Regulations to Egypt Law No. 198/2014 on Mineral Resources were promulgated under Prime Ministerial Decree No. 108/2020, which was published in the Official Gazette on 14 January 2020. Prime Ministerial Decree No. 108/2020 follows shortly after the recent amendments to Egypt Law No. 198/2014 that were enacted last August under Egypt Law No. 145/2019. Prime Ministerial Decree No. 108/2020 appears to eliminate the need for mining companies to form joint ventures with the Egyptian government and to limit state royalties to a maximum 20%, measures long encouraged by the private sector.

Prime Ministerial Decree No. 108/2020 was issued with a full repealing effect to the existing Executive Regulations.
