We, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates,

Pursuant to the perusal of the Constitution,

Federal Law No. 1/1972 concerning competencies of ministries and powers of ministers, and its amendments; and

Based on what was presented by the Minister of Education, and the approval of the Cabinet,

Issued the following Decree-Law:

Article 1 - Definitions

In application of the provisions of the present Decree-Law, the following terms and expression shall have the meanings assigned thereto, unless the context requires otherwise:

  • State: United Arab Emirates.

  • Ministry: Ministry of Education.

  • Minister: Minister of Education.

  • Higher Education: Education that follows the stage of general education and is offered by higher education institutions that grant the student a scientific or professional degree in accordance with the stages stipulated in Article (5) of the present Decree-Law, upon successful completion of all academic courses approved by the Ministry.
