Federal Decree-Law No. 44/2021 On the Establishment of the Emirates Data Office

We/ Khalifa bin Zayed Aal Nahyan, the President of the State of the United Arab Emirates,

  • After consulting the Constitution,

  • And the Federal Law No. 1/1972 regarding ministers’ terms of reference and powers, and its amendments,

  • And according to what was presented by the Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the approval of the Cabinet,

We issued the following statutory decree:

Article 1 - Definitions

When enforcing the provisions of this statutory decree, the following words and phrases mean what is stated next to them in these definitions unless the context of the text states otherwise.

  • The State:                    The United Arab Emirates.

    The Bureau:                 UAE Data Bureau.

    Competent Bodies:    Federal and local government entities related to data protection.

Article 2 - Establishment of the Bureau

Under the provisions of this statutory decree, a Bureau called “UAE Data Bureau” is established. It is subordinate to the Cabinet. It enjoys legal entity, financial and administrative autonomy, and the legal competence to carry out the actions and acts necessary for implementing its terms of reference.
