Oman Sultani Decree No. 23/2023 On Omanis’ Marriage to Foreigners

We, Haitham bin Tarik, Sultan of Oman

Pursuant to the perusal of the Basic Statute of the State;

The Personal Status Law issued by Omani Sultani Decree No. 32/1997;

The Notary Public Law issued by Omani Sultani Decree No. 40/2003;

Omani Citizenship Law issued by Omani Sultani Decree No. 38/2014;

Omani Sultani Decree No. 58/1993 on delegating in the issuance of the provisions governing the marriage of Omanis to foreigners and amending the Law Governing Omani Nationality;

Omani Sultani Decree No. 37/2022 on determining the competences of the Ministry of Finance and approving its organisational structure; and

Based on the public interest requirements,

Have issued the following Decree:

Article 1

Oman Sultani Decree No. 58/1993 referred to above and the decisions issued in implementation of its provisions shall be abrogated.

Article 2

The provisions of this Decree shall not prejudice the provisions of Islamic Sharia or the public policy, or any provision in the Laws, Sultani Decrees, and applicable regulations that imposes forbiddance of marriage to a foreigner as a condition for assuming and remaining in certain public positions of importance or special nature.
