New Regulations for Salary Certificates in the DIFC

Analysis

With immediate effect, salary certificates issued by the Dubai International Financial Centre Authority to support dependent visa applications and liquor licenses do not have to state the exact salary of an employee, according to the latest announcement.

Salary certificates issued by the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Authority to support dependent visa applications and liquor licenses do not have to state the exact salary of an employee, if the monthly remuneration is above AED 20,000. In such case, the sponsor can simply specify that the individual's salary is above AED 20,000 per month.

If the applicant's remuneration is AED 20,000 per month or less, the salary breakdown must be provided.

This new ruling is a result of an agreement between the DIFC Authority, the General Directorate of Residence and Foreigners Affairs and the Dubai Police.

What This Means for Employers and Foreign Nationals

Employers in the DIFC can now benefit from not having to disclose confidential salary information if the employee's monthly remuneration is greater than AED 20,000.
