Dubai: Mandatory Online Submission for Visa Applications

Analysis

In a move to simplify the immigration process, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA) has introduced a new electronic system for submission of visa applications, including for dependents.

Application Process

Foreign nationals can now apply for visas at approved typing centres in Dubai without having to visit a GDRFA branch. A personal presence at the GDRFA offices will only be required for the residence permit endorsement process (although this could be arranged through the Zajel courier service as well) and in exceptional cases. Most entry permits for visitors and residents will be issued electronically and emailed to the applicant, eliminating the requirement to carry the original entry permit.

Original documents must be presented at the typing centre for the purposes of preparing and submitting the application, those include the sponsor's Emirates ID Card, passport, and relevant supporting certificates (e.g. marriage or birth certificates). Additional information, such as International Bank Account Number (IBAN) of the sponsor will also be required for typing.
