Slim Gargouri provides an update on tax developments in Iran examining proposed new tax incentives.

Iran's National Tax Administration has announced the Government is drafting new tax incentives to boost investment in the country offering tax breaks which will have come into effect from the next Iranian calendar year (which begins on 20 March). Under the new measures, newly established hotels and tourist centres would qualify for an income tax exemption over a five year period. The exemption period is extended to ten years for projects implemented in developing zones.

Iran-Slovakia Tax Treaty

On 19 January 2016, officials from Iran and Slovakia signed an income tax treaty in Tehran. The main provisions are as follows:

- in the Slovak Republic

(i) in respect of taxes withheld at source to amounts of income paid or credited on or after the first day of January of the calendar year following the year in which this Agreement enters into force,
