Analysis
The Manpower Ministry has launched a mandatory online registration process for employment contracts with Omani nationals, which is expected to streamline the registration process as an in-person signature is no longer required.
The new service will allow employers to register contracts electronically, without the written, in-person signatures previously required at the Ministry. Registration can now be completed through the Ministry's website.
It is expected the implementation of the process will be mandatory for excellent and first grade companies (under the Commerce and Industry Ministry categorisation), from 1 March 2016. For all other categories, the new process must be followed from 1 June 2016.
What This Means for Employers and Foreign Nationals
Employers must now register employment contracts for their Omani workforce through the Ministry's online system.
