UAE: Update on Visitor Visas On-Arrival for Gulf Cooperation Council Residents
Analysis
As a result of delays and backlogs with the e-visa system for GCC residents, the UAE Immigration Authorities are exceptionally issuing visitor visas on-arrival for eligible GCC residents on a case by case basis.
From 1 October 2015, GCC residents entering the UAE must obtain an e-visa online before their arrival, unless they qualify for the UAE visitor visa on-arrival based on their nationality. However, because of technical difficulties with the online process, the UAE Authorities may now allow entry without the e-visa, subject to the travellers' eligibility and based on the individual case facts.
Whilst there has been no official announcement, obtaining the e-visa before travelling is still considered mandatory and the visas on-arrival are issued by exception. It is expected that as soon as upgrades to the electronic system are complete, these exceptions will no longer be made.
