UAE: Delays in Processing Saudi Visas

Analysis

The visa application centre for Saudi Arabia in the UAE, VFS Tasheel International, has temporarily stopped accepting visa applications for Chinese nationals and Egyptian Muslims with immediate effect.

Affected candidates can re-submit their applications after Eid al-Adha, the public holiday which is expected to fall on 22 and 23 September, depending on the moon sighting.

Although the reasons for the decision have not been confirmed, it is believed the restriction is due to the volume of applications before the upcoming pilgrimage season (Haj). Backlogs are possible following the holidays.

What This Means for Employers and Foreign Nationals

Employers in the UAE should expect delays in processing Saudi visas for their employees. Chinese nationals and Muslim Egyptians should ensure that respective applications are submitted after the Eid al-Adha holidays.
