Anti-bribery and Corruption in Oman

Analysis

According to comments made by Oman's Attorney General, Hussain Al Hilai to the Oman Observer in May 2014: “Corruption doesn't mean for one society or a state, but it is a global phenomenon.  Lots of countries suffer from it…Therefore the phenomenon has attracted the attention of all societies and countries to eliminate it and stop its rise.”

Background

On 20 November 2013, Oman ratified the United Nations Convention against Corruption, subsequently endorsing it by issuing Oman Sultani Decree No. 64/2013. The ratification of the Convention comes as Oman looks to develop its anti-bribery and corruption policies and means they have committed themselves to develop comprehensive anti-bribery and corruption policies in addition to those already in place.

The Convention aims to promote and strengthen measures to prevent and combat corruption, promote, facilitate and support international cooperation and technical assistance in the prevention of corruption and fight against corruption and promote integrity, accountability and proper management of public affairs and public property.
