TECOM Freezone Introduces New Immigration Services E-portal and Other Procedural Changes
Analysis
TECOM Freezone has recently launched a new online portal for immigration services which brings the following procedural changes:
All applications (including those for internal transfers and local status amendments, visit visa-on-arrival extensions) must be submitted online. In-person applications are no longer accepted
Document submissions and collection will be handled exclusively by TECOM's courier service, which will limit Public Relations Officers' (PROs) involvement in the immigration process. Exceptions may be made for certain document types.
Additionally, the Freezone has introduced a one-year Employment Residence Permit along with the previous three-year Employment Residence Permit.
The following new requirements are also proposed:
Sponsored employees must be de-registered and have their immigration files closed upon cancellation of their Employment Residence Permits (ERPs) or transfer of employment. This must be done within 45 days of termination of employment.
Employee salaries must be amended at the time of ERP renewal.
