Immigration Developments in the UAE

Analysis

As with immigration processes around the world, the United Arab Emirates continues to evolve and develop its approach in order to meet its strategic priorities. The country's economy has demonstrated a strong recovery from the global crisis of 2009 and with a further positive outlook in view of the developments required for Expo2020, reforms have been targeted at ensuring more efficient and robust processes to cater to an increased number of visitors to and foreign workers in the country. Additional reforms have also been introduced to balance the increased needs of foreign workers with the need to maintain a high quality workforce and ensure security and stability within its borders. Other changes also relate to better regulation of an increased workforce in terms of compliance and protection of rights for foreign workers. It is a challenging task indeed but one that the UAE authorities, compared to its peers in the region, continue to lead the way with.
